Save money on your passport photos

May 31, 2008 · Filed Under Travel tips · Comment

When you are ready to go and get your passport photos, you will find that they will cost you anywhere from $8 to $20. Back when I got my passport photos I went to the local AAA office and paid $8.00, which was the fee for members, and got 4 photos.

There is a cheaper way to get your passport photos though!

You can take them at home with a digital camera - just make you are doing it the way they would as far as background and what not. Then upload the photos www.epassportphoto.com.

The site will take your image file and make it into a 4×6 image file with six of the required 2×2 passport-size photos.

Then just use an online service to get them printed. If you watch sites like Slick Deals or Fat Wallet you will often see codes for free prints at Walgreens. Otherwise you can upload it to a similar place and get it printed for around $0.20.

On May 25, 2008 in Regent Street in London there will be a Guinness World Record attempt to stage the largest Sevillanas dance ever. If you want to be a part of this you can! In fact, anyone can participate as long as they register online.

Here is what you need to know -

Regent Street is going to be closed to traffic on May 25th between the hours of noon and 4 PM. There will be three bands from Andalucia providing music. And there are even dance lessons with live music before the main event begins. If you do not need lessons you are welcome to practice with the beginners.

To celebrate the event, Heddon Street and Swallow Street will be offering special Spanish delicacies and al fresco dining through out the day. And once the main event is over, you can head to Heddon Street for more Andalucian music and dancing.

And if you can’t squeeze all the fun into that night, do not worry as the Spanish fun continues for a fortnight! There will be Spanish food at Heddon Street and Swallow Street restaurants and a program of live music and dance.

The Million Dollar Highway

May 20, 2008 · Filed Under United States · Comment

Million Dollar HighwayThe Million Dollar Highway is a stretch of highway about 25 miles in western Colorado and follows the route of U.S. 550 between Silverton and Ouray, Colorado.

While the entire 25 miles stretch is called the Million Dollar Highway, it is really the twelve miles south of Ouray through the Uncompahgre Gorge to the summit of Red Mountain Pass which gains the highway its name. In this particular part of the Million Dollar Highway you will see steep cliffs with the noticeable lack of guardrails. As if that is not exciting/dangerous enough, you will also meet several hairpin “S” curves on the ascent of Red Mountain Pass. My first time on the Million Dollar Highway was on a school trip where we were in a large coach on those hairpin turns. Being on the side of the bus with the steep drop-offs and lack of guardrails is something that I will not soon forget. And, the scenery is equally as memorable.
