Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant Kansas CityKansas City’s Power and Light District is the new home of the Raglan Road Irish Pub. If you are in Kansas City this weekend for the Kansas City Irish Festival then this is a great place for you to check out afterwards.

Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant is located in the Power & Light District across the street from the Sprint Center at 170 East 14th Street. The gimmick of the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant is that it is owned and operated by an Irish Company and was built entirely in Ireland - then shipped to Kansas City. The joke is that everything came from Ireland except for the toilets, which came from Wisconsin.

When I visited the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant I found the inside to be rather impressive. The seating and decor was gorgeous and there was a stage on the main floor. The walls were primarily decorated throughout with paintings and pictures of notable Irish bands, with one glaring exception. There was no escaping images of U2, which I had expected. There were also photos of The Cranberries. However, well-known Irish band The Corrs were not represented anywhere. I can’t help but wonder why.

Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant claims to offer up the very best of authentic Irish food, beers and spirits as well as presenting live entertainment featuring Irish-born musicians and dancers. I dined at the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant for lunch and therefore did not get any entertainment with my meal. In regards to the food, I can only think that they are making such a claim assuming that people in Kansas City have never actually eaten in Ireland. I did not find the food to be authentically Irish, and the presentation of it was certainly not authentically Irish. It seems like maybe the people at the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant are trying a bit too hard here.

Everyone in my party had the Fish & Chips and declared them to be ‘nothing special’ and ‘tasteless.’ I do, however, give them kudos for bringing out malt vinegar for the chips. Sadly, that was the most authentic part of the meal.

Bland meal aside, the atmosphere of the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant is really nice and the service is exceptional. You will also not want to miss out on the bread and oil that comes before your meal. The oil has Guinness in it and has a great taste that will not quite be what you are expecting.
