The Tennessee State Museum is one of the best kept secrets in Nashville. You see, admission to the museum’s permanent exhibits, the Military Museum and the State Capitol is always free!

The Tennessee State Museum is located at 505 Deaderick Street. It is actually in the lower levels of the James K. Polk Cultural Center, which is also where the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, or TPAC, is housed. So, if you have tickets for a show at TPAC, why not arrive early and check out the Tennessee State Museum first?
Hours open are: Tuesday – Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday: 1 to 5 p.m.
Closed: Mondays and four holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
What can you expect to see at the Tennessee State Museum?
When you enter the Tennessee State Museum the exhibits begin with prehistoric people and continue through the early 1900s. There are special displays about explorers, pioneers, Civil War, Reconstruction, and even a 3,000-year-old mummy! The State Museum ‘s Civil War holdings represent the finest collection of uniforms, battle flags, and weapons in the nation.
The Tennessee State Museum is spread out over three floors and is currently the largest museum in Nashville. There are plans to relocate the museum to a larger home in the Bicentennial Mall area in the future.

If you are in Nashville and looking for a great place to eat that is downtown and cheap then you have GOT to go to Sub Stop. It is located at 1701 Broadway and you won’t be able to miss this pink facade.

If you’re looking to rub elbows with some celebs or some of Nashville’s power players from the music industry then be sure to stop in for lunch during the week. But expect for the line to be out the door during lunch on weekdays.
The parking is free but the lot is tiny. If you can’t find a place in back, look for street parking as you will not want to miss out on these tasty subs. They also have great soup!
Sub Stop is open from 10am to 8pm Monday through Saturday. They are closed on Sundays.

The days of free airline pillows and blankets are disappearing almost as quickly as the value of my 401k!
US Airways is the latest airline to announce that blankets and pillows will no longer be given out gratis on flights, at least for those sitting in coach. Instead, if you need a pillow or blankie you will have to fork over $7 to get a “Power-Nap Sack” that includes 34-by-60-inch fleece blanket, a neck pillow, eye shades, foam ear plugs and a $10-off coupon for items in the SkyMall catalog (because really, they haven’t gotten enough of your money yet).
Next up, $10 for bathroom breaks!
