Visit the Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland
Posted by Nick on July 21, 2009
The Cliffs of Moher are one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ireland. And you might just recognize them from a scene from the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie. You can find the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare where they stretch 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometers over the Atlantic Ocean.
There is a visitor’s center at the Cliffs and a parking lot off the main road. The facilities charge is €8.00 per vehicle for 2009 and covers parking as well as admission to all public areas. However, when I visited in March I arrived 30 minutes before closing and did not have to pay.
Hours for 2009 Season:
January: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00/5:30 p.m.
February: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00/5:30 p.m.
March: 9.00 a.m. – 6.00/6:30 p.m.
April: 9.00 a.m. – 6.30 p.m.
May: 9.00 a.m. – 7.00 p.m.
June: 9.00 a.m. – 9.30 p.m.
July: 9.00 a.m. – 9.30p.m.
August: 9.00 a.m. – 9.30p.m.
September:9.00 a.m. – 7.00/7.30 p.m.
October: 9.00 a.m. – 6.30/7.00 p.m.
November: 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.
December: 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.
If you visit the Cliffs, be sure to bring a jacket as it is quite windy up there. And do heed the signs that warn against getting too close to certain edges. When I went through Customs and Immigration at the airport I was told that people regularly fall over the Cliffs!
