How to Buy a Delta Business Class Upgrade

On some planes, the Delta Business Class seats are those awesome flat bed ones that you can stretch out on. If you have booked an economy seat on a Delta flight and are thinking that stretching out sounds pretty good you might want to buy a business class upgrade.

Of course, you probably already know that you can ask about purchasing an upgrade when you check-in for your flight. You may have mixed results with that though.

What you might not know is that Medallion members of the Delta Sky Club get complimentary business class upgrades! Wahoo for that! If you are not familiar with the Delta Sky Club you do have to pay to be a member of it. This is what gets you entrance into those sky lounges at airports.

There are four tiers of membership, with General being the lowest and Platinum Medallion being the highest. There are only three medallion levels and General is not one of them! The higher your medallion level the more likely you get that business class upgrade on your flight.

Medallion members have to request an upgrade at least 45 minutes before flight departure but the sooner you make your request the more likely it is that you get that upgrade. If it is more than 3 hours before your flight you can make your request online. You can also sign up for the Delta Sky Club online.
