Marblehead Ohio’s Marblehead Lighthouse

September 14, 2008 · Filed Under United States · Comment

Marblehead LighthouseIf you find yourself up in Sandusky, Ohio visiting Cedar Point and looking for something else fun to do, why not head on over to Marblehead Lighthouse in Marblehead, Ohio.

It is only about a 20 minute drive from the Sandusky area. In fact, you can even see Cedar Point from the lighthouse area.

Cedar Point from Marblehead Lighthouse

The Marblehead Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in continuous operation on the Great Lakes. You can go up in the lighthouse if you like. Tours are offered on weekday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. May 27 through August 29, and on the second Saturday of the month from June 1 through October. The keeper’s cottage is also nearby for you to check out. It operates on the same hours as the lighthouse.

marblehead lighthouse

There are also some areas for picnicking around the lighthouse. If you do decide to check out the Marblehead Lighthouse, you will get to have a neat little drive through the town of Marblehead. And the entrance to the area where the lighthouse is can easily be missed - it is one of those ‘blink and you’ll miss it kind of things’ as the sign only reads “Marblehead Lighthouse State Park.”

If you head to the lighthouse and are driving through Marblehead, the entrance to the area where the lighthouse is will be on your right. You cannot see the lighthouse from the road. There is plenty of parking and if you are not waiting to tour the lighthouse you can probably take this trip in about 20 minutes.
