Review of Grand Metropole Hotel in Blackpool

Posted by Nick on September 28, 2009

The Grand Metropole Hotel in Blackpool is located seaside between the promenade and the sea. Guests are treated to views of the Irish Sea from the hotel. There are 209 rooms available for guests with amenities that include a television and coffee and tea making facilities. The Promenade Restaurant and the Coastal Café bar are the on-site dining options for all guests. And for guests that have upgraded to a Premier room, access to the Worral Restaurant is available. This restaurant offers sea views. Hotel amenities include a game room and nightly entertainment.

Takeaways

Parking is limited and you may arrive to see that there are no parking spaces available.

The restaurants serve a full breakfast for only £5.95 per person. Lunch is not available at the restaurants but dinner is available.

The hotel is adjacent to the North Pier, which makes it easy to explore the entertainment, cafes and shops on the pier.

Blackpool Tower is within walking distance of the Grand Metropole Hotel.

There always seemed to be piles of dirty dishes in the restaurant, which was not appetizing.

Insider Tips

Avoid a room that faces the promenade as there is a nightclub that makes a lot of noise late into the evening that you can hear in your room.

If you are booking a sea view room, ask for a room on the third floor for the best views of the sea from your room.

Laterooms.com often offers the hotel at a discount price.

The Bottom Line

If you are traveling to Blackpool to see the North Pier and Blackpool Tower this is a great base for your exploring.

The National Railway Museum in York, England is a great place to visit if you find yourself in York. And best of all, it is free! Unless of course there is a special event and then you will probably have to pay some sort of admission. The National Railway Museum is within walking distance of the York Train Station. If you arrive straight from the train station and are hungry you have a few food options. You can eat at Brief Encounter, which is the licensed restaurant at the National Railway Museum. It serves full meals and light snacks and can be found in the Station Hall. If you just want a quick snack then you will want to check out the Signal Box Cafe in the Main Hall. And during the holiday season there is a Barbecue in the South Yard.

The National Railway Museum in York is the world’s largest railway museum.

While at the National Railway Museum, you will not want to miss the Yorkshire Wheel. Think of it as York’s version of the London Eye. The ride lasts for 13 minutes and will take you round 3 times. What is really cool about the Yorkshire Wheel is that the pods are air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. You will really not want to miss the view of York from this! You can fit up to 8 people in a pod. And there is an admission fee for this one. It is £6 for adults and £4 for children ages 4 – 12, under 4 is free.
