Green Lodging – Yurt Hotels

by Shawna

If you are looking for some eco-friendly lodging you might want to look for a yurt hotel at your destination. If you are not familiar with yurts, a picture of one is below.

Basically, a yurt is kind of like a tent, only it is covered and usually has some electricity. Most yurt hotels have shared bath houses, but some have private bath huts next to your yurt. Just do not be surprised by the composting toilet!

Here are some places where you can find yurt hotels:

  • Big Sur, California – Treebones Resort
  • The Ardèche, France – Canvaschic
  • Baja California, Mexico – Las Animas
  • Cornwall, England – Yurtworks
  • Lycia, Turkey – Hurzur Vadisi
  • Andaluca, Spain – Hoopoe Yurt Hotel

Nice listing! I’d also check out yurts in state parks. Oregon State Parks, for example, have close to two hundred yurts available year round in state parks. (There’s nothing like a yurt in February on the Oregon Coast.)

A wonderful aspect of yurt camping is that yurts are handicapped accessible, making the camping experience much more do-able for handicapped folks.

Again, great blog. All the best,
